Endless success stories of Dr.Akhilamole

Agripreneur from a small village in Thrissur district whose vision is to popularise and develop aquaculture in India. Over the past 18 years she have been working in this sector. She started Ponnoos Aqua clinic and Hatchery with an initial investment of Rs.20 lakhs, now her enterprise has a turnover of Rs.1.5 crores and provide employment for the rural women in our area. There are customers from all over India for the enterprise.

Dr. Akhilamole is a native of N. Paravoor and married to Mr. Ramesh, who is working as Principal, Industrial Training Centre, Kasargod. She coming from a rural area where aquaculture, fishing, farming and animal husbandry are the main occupation of the people.
Recently, Dr.Akhila was awarded with Ph.D. from Annamalai University.

Dr.Akhila have completed B. Sc and M. Sc. courses in Aquaculture and have 3 years working experience in fisheries organizations and 18 years of practical experience in Aquaculture and Fisheries. After getting training from AC&ABC of Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India, she running an Aquaculture and Fisheries Organization, Ponnoos Aquaclinic and Training centre at Kodungallur for the last 12 years. Dr.Akhilamole started Navaratna Matsya Sevana Kendram.

Technology and Innovation Adopted

Dr. Akhilamole M. A is a women entrepreneur with innovative ideas for a successful enterprise. successful enterprise. While working in various fields, Dr. Akhilamole convinced the business possibilities in Fisheries and Aquaculture which made her to take up an enterprise in Fisheries and Aquaculture sector.

In the year 2010, she started a food processing unit to produce rice and wheat powders and value added products of fish / prawns. In 2010, she also started an ornamental fish breeding and rearing unit with financial assistance from Marine Products Export Development Authority, (Govt. of India). In 2011, she has undergone training in AC&ABC scheme of Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India conducted by Kerala Agricultural University. Under this scheme, she started Ponnoos Aquaclinic and Consultancy Services along with a fish hatchery and a trading business of fish seeds and aquaculture inputs with ₹ 8.00 lakhs subsidy. This venture was a great success and it has given an inspiration to expand her working zone in a big way. She provides consultancy and training to aquafarmers in site selection, preparation of ponds, stocking of fish seeds, feeding, disease management, harvesting and marketing.

There is an Aqualab also to test water and soil quality parameters. Ponnoos also produce fish feeds for various fishes under the brand Ponnoos. She started Navaratna Matsya Sevana Kendram. Here farmers can get technical advice in aquaculture and can test water, soil and microbial quality parameters. 18 technicians and skilled workers are presently employed in Ponnoos and Navaratna Matsya Sevana Kendram.
